The 2012 PDF Technical Conference: Reviews are In

Article

In late March many members of the PDF Association sent their developers and technical product managers to Basel Switzerland for a two-day intensive in PDF technology.

The results are in from the attendees survey. With over 60% of the participants responding overall, it appears that people generally learned a lot, considered the event worthwhile and had a good time besides, with overall high grades and few exceptions.

Highly positive assessment for

The “7 Minutes with a Developer” session was especially popular, with attendees appreciating a rapid-fire update on nine PDF and related Standards, each standard getting a maximum of seven minutes in the spotlight!

A wide variety of breakout sessions were attended by various attendees. It’s clear that attendees found both Leonard Rosenthol’s presentation on PDF Validation and the track on accessibility and PDF/UA to be highly relevant to their jobs. Those in attendance found the discussions around PDF 3.0 to be very interesting, including the challenge regarding epub by Bill McCoy!

Everyone present for that session remembers the bet: Duff Johnson owes Bill McCoy one (1) bottle of schnapps if Acrobat 12 ships with a “Convert this web-page to an offline epub file.” feature. Good luck, Bill. J

While the meeting-rooms were criticized as too small (and they were), the food, drink, location and facilities all scored well, as did the evening out at Walliser Kanne.

The movies, available to members only on the PDF Association Intranet, make it possible to listen to the presentations you missed at the time.

Overall, what we’re hearing is that the members of the PDF Association who sent staff to the 2012 PDF Technical Conference learned a lot and had a good time besides. They want to do it again in a year or so.

So do we all!

More later.
